What we confirm

What a verification letter contains.

Under the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act, we release directory information to third parties only when the student has consented in writing or when the law permits it. With signed consent, a verification letter confirms the following, on university letterhead, signed by the registrar.

  • Full legal name on the academic record
  • Credential awarded and the exact program title
  • Date the degree was conferred
  • Dates of attendance and enrollment status
  • Cumulative grade point average and honors, when the graduate authorizes it
  • A verification identifier you can quote back to us

We will not confirm a credential we did not award. If a document presented to you claims a NextGen degree that does not appear in our records, tell us. We investigate every report of a falsified credential and respond in writing.

Three kinds of request

Who is asking changes what we need from you.

Employers and screeners

Send the graduate's full legal name, date of birth or the last four digits of their identification number, the approximate year of graduation, and a signed consent or release from the individual. Background screening firms may submit under a standing consent agreement.

Graduates and current students

You can request a verification letter for yourself at any time, at no cost, with no consent form required. Say who it should be addressed to and whether it should go to you or directly to them.

Institutions and licensing boards

Universities evaluating transfer credit, graduate admissions offices, and state licensing boards should request an official transcript rather than a verification letter. Transcripts are sent as a certified PDF or on paper by mail.

Official transcripts. Requested by the student only. Electronic copies are $10 and delivered within two business days. Paper copies are $15 and mailed first class within five business days. Transcripts are held if there is an unpaid balance on the account.
