Why we exist
In 2010 the online degree market was built for one of two people: the eighteen year old who could not get into a state school, or the executive whose employer would pay any price. Nobody was building for the thirty four year old shift supervisor with two kids, sixty transferable credits sitting in a drawer, and no path to the job one level up.
That is the person NextGen was founded for, and it is still who fills our classes. Everything about how the university runs follows from it. Terms are eight weeks because a sixteen week semester is too long to hold together around a job. You take two courses at a time because five is a fantasy. You keep the same advisor for the whole degree because starting over with a new one every year is how people quietly disappear.
We are also honest about what we are. We are a small, Florida licensed institution, not a research university, and we do not participate in federal student aid. We tell prospective students that before they apply, not after. If a NextGen degree is not the right instrument for what you are trying to do, we would rather you find that out on a phone call than three terms in.
How we teach
Wherever it is possible, coursework asks you to apply the material to a company you know, usually your employer. You leave a course with an artifact you could hand to someone, not a paper written for a grader.
Faculty are hired with graduate credentials in the field and meaningful time spent running a function in a business. Somebody who has actually closed the books or missed a forecast teaches differently.
There are no mandatory live sessions. Material is released weekly, deadlines are weekly, and office hours are optional. Your schedule is not a scheduling problem for us to solve, it is the constraint we designed around.
Advisors watch for the two week silence that usually precedes a student dropping out, and they call. It is the single most effective thing a small institution can do that a large one cannot.
Licensure and standing
NextGen Online University is the registered trade name of Next Generation Learning LLC, a Florida limited liability company. The university is licensed by the Commission for Independent Education of the Florida Department of Education, which is the state agency that authorizes independent postsecondary institutions to operate and to confer degrees in Florida.
Licensure means the state has reviewed the institution's programs, faculty qualifications, financial condition, student records practices, and consumer protections, and continues to review them. It is a different thing from institutional accreditation by a body recognized by the United States Department of Education, and we do not describe ourselves as accredited.
We spell out the practical consequence rather than leaving you to discover it. Because the university is not Title IV eligible, federal grants and federal student loans are not available here. Whether credits earned at NextGen transfer to another institution, and whether a specific employer, licensing board, or graduate program recognizes a NextGen degree, is always determined by that receiving organization. If any of that is load bearing for your plan, confirm it with them in writing before you enroll. Our registrar will send them any documentation they ask for.

Talk to a person
Call an advisor and open with whatever you are actually worried about, the cost, the credits, whether this counts where you need it to count. You will get a straight answer, including when the answer is that we are not the right fit.
